Calderdale students are celebrating after making the grade in their GCSEs.
Early indications are that results across most secondary schools in Calderdale are improved on last year, with more young people than ever before achieving five A* to Cs in their GCSEs including English and maths – the key government measure.
Based on provisional results, this puts Calderdale in the top five local authorities across Yorkshire and Humber.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, Cllr Megan Swift, said:
“I’m delighted that our young people have achieved such good results this year, and I would like to congratulate all students and staff in Calderdale schools.
“This well-deserved success is down to the hard work of pupils, but also of families and schools who have provided amazing support and encouragement.
“I’d like to wish all those receiving their results the very best for the future, whichever option they choose to pursue.”
Just as at most Calderdale schools, it’s smiles all round at Rastrick High School, with some fantastic individual success stories, including Priya Lally who exceeded every one of her target grades to gain three A*s, four As and one B, and Charlotte Probyn who overcame medical issues in her final year to achieve a brilliant seven As. Other success stories include Theo Ayres who gained seven A*s and Sam Cooper who achieved three A*s, four As and one B. Rastrick Sixth Form College bound friends, Aimee Prior and Brittany Webster, are sharing each other’s success after gaining two A*s and six As, and four A*s, one A and two Bs respectively.
Aimee said:
“I am really thrilled. I wanted no less than an A but didn’t expect to actually achieve it. My parents are really happy and I am really looking forward to joining the Sixth Form to study English Language, English Literature, Physics and Drama.”
