Bring Tour de France shopping to life…

Love your local market

Residents and visitors not only have a fantastic opportunity to welcome the Tour de France to Calderdale this weekend; they can also visit the Arts Festival, a special Tour de Tod market in Todmorden and a crafts and local produce market at Hebden Bridge.

This weekend, there’ll be a real buzz in the air; sporting heroes, cycling fans and people cheering the race along. Before the big day, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge markets are sure to tickle those taste buds with lots on offer to try and buy.

Some of the fantastic products on offer include unique cheeses, olives, Indian foods, rare breed pork, lamb and beef and even a hog roast. For those with a sweet tooth, there’ll be lots of homemade cakes and preserves available. If you’re looking for a special gift then you’ll be heading to the right place. You’ll find plants, flowers, arts and crafts.

A visit to our markets allows shoppers to browse at their leisure and have real conversation with people who are passionate about the products they sell. Unlike typical chain store retailers, our markets bring quality products that quite often have made or reared themselves. Visiting Todmorden and Hebden Bridge markets this weekend is sure to get you in the spirit for the big race!

Calderdale Council’s Markets Manager, John Walker said:

“There’s a lot going on across our markets this weekend. We’re extending the usual market operating hours over the weekend until 7.00pm at Todmorden and there’ll also be a big screen that people can watch the race on. In addition to our markets, there’s lots more happening. On Saturday 5 July 2014, Le Grand D’Party takes place from 4.00pm until 8.00pm which will be a free family party with a French twist! Bike story: What’s your story is also taking place at Manor Heath Park from 2.00pm and Cart before horse at 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm at Woolshops Shopping Centre, Halifax.”

Hebden Bridge crafts and local produce market will take place on Saturday 5 July 2014 from 9.00am until 6.00pm at Lees Yard.

Tour de Tod markets will take place on Friday 4 July, Saturday 5 July and Sunday 6 July from 9.00am staying open until 7.00pm. For more information about other markets in Calderdale, visit www.calderdale,gov.uk/markets(external link) or call 01422 288001.
