Conserving Luddenden

Calderdale Council has worked with Luddendenfoot Conservation Society to produce a new document to promote the special qualities of Luddenden and help people learn more about the area.

The Luddenden Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan will look at the history, development and appearance of Luddenden, and ways to retain these characteristics. The Council is inviting people to look at the document and share their thoughts as part of a public consultation running from Wednesday 24 April until Wednesday 5 June 2013.

Luddenden is one of a number of Conservation Areas in Calderdale. These are places which the Council considers to be of architectural or historic importance. The boundary of the Luddenden Conservation Area is not proposed to be altered.

The new Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan will contain information and advice which will be useful when planning applications are being assessed. It is important for residents to look at the plans, as they could affect future proposals for properties in the area.

The document offers guidance to help maintain the attractive character of the village. It will also include proposals to protect and enhance the Conservation Area.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Cllr Barry Collins, said:

“This document will help to preserve the existing features of Luddenden, protecting the village for future generations and promoting an understanding of the significance of the Conservation Area.”

The draft document can be viewed at St Mary’s Church, Luddenden from Wednesday 24 April until Friday 24 May 2013 between 9.00am and 5.00pm. You can also view the plans and ask questions to Council staff on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 1 May: 5.30pm 7.30pm
  • Thursday 9 May: 3.00pm 5.00pm
  • Friday 10 May: 9.30am 11.30am
  • Saturday 11 May: 10.30am 11.00am, followed by a public meeting which will finish at 12.00pm
