Day care provision in Children’s Centres

At a Cabinet meeting tonight, Wednesday 27 February, Councillors will consider seven options for the future of day care provision at six Children’s Centres in Calderdale.

This follows 90 days of public consultation to withdraw funding from the Children’s Centres in Elland, Field Lane, New Road, Siddal, Todmorden and Wellholme Park.

Families, staff, the Children’s Centre Area Advisory Board and the providers of private nurseries in Calderdale were invited to give their views during the consultation on the future of the six centres. Children’s Centres work with the most disadvantaged families to provide high quality childcare.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Care, Councillor Megan Swift said:

“I have listened carefully to all the responses and share their passionate commitment to both Children’s Centres and high quality childcare. I will be recommending that we continue to offer nursery provision in the five children’s centres where it is currently available until a Commission has reported on what we should do in future.”
