Halifax is turning purple!

Purple flag

For the fourth year running Halifax is the only town in West Yorkshire to hold a Purple Flag award – this is the gold standard for being a safe and welcoming place for a night out.

To celebrate being a Purple Flag town, Halifax town centre is hosting events for Purple Flag week, between Saturday 27 September and Friday 3 October.

As part of the week, we’re encouraging people around Halifax to wear purple for the day on Tuesday 30 September, showing support and raising awareness for the scheme.

Events are also taking place in Halifax town centre, including Police exhibition vans at the Woolshops shopping centre on Saturday 27 September and at Broad Street Plaza on Sunday 28 September.

Purple is the gold standard

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Marcus Thompson, said:

“We’re proud to be a Purple Flag town, and by getting involved in Purple Flag week we’re reminding people that Halifax holds this prestigious award, meaning it’s a great place for a safe night out.

“We are very proud of the hard work our staff and partners have put in to ensure Halifax keeps its Purple Flag status, and it’s great we can celebrate this during the national week.”
