Hurdling over the 9,000 member mark

Calderdale Council’s Sports Service is celebrating after reaching the 9,000 members milestone.

On 1 May 2013, Calderdale’s Active Lifestyles membership figures reached a record high of 9,015 – a sign of the great facilities and service offered to anyone joining at the six sites across Calderdale.

This fantastic achievement adds to what is set to be another great year for sport in Calderdale, with the Shay Stadium hosting both the Northern Rail Cup Final in July, and the Italy v Tonga game as part of Rugby League World Cup 2013 in November.

The legacy of the London 2012 Olympics has also clearly had an effect, with nearly 2,000 people joining up within the last year.

Many of the 9,015 (and counting) members have renewed their membership year on year, proving that the huge range of classes, free instructor support and great facilities continue to be a draw for both new and existing members.

With the use of six gyms, four pools, over 150 classes a week, plus sauna and steam room facilities all included in the monthly membership price, it’s easy to see why so many people have signed up for Calderdale Active Lifestyles membership.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Pauline Nash, said:

“This is another fantastic achievement for sport in Calderdale. There is a real buzz around at the moment, with excitement building for the upcoming rugby league events, and for the Tour de France next year.

“Our sports facilities provide excellent value for money and a varied programme of activities. I’m really pleased, but not surprised that the service has achieved these incredible membership figures.”

New members are always welcome, with adult prices starting at £20.50 a month for unlimited usage. For more information call in to any Calderdale Council fitness centre, or visit the Council’s website: Sport and Fitness
