It’s official – Ripponden Community market has been named ‘Best local council market of the year’ in the annual National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) awards 2014. Calderdale Council works closely with Ripponden Parish Council to run the local community market to bring quality, local products to residents and visitors of Calderdale.
Ripponden is just one of Calderdale’s fantastic markets, and as part of our campaign to encourage shopping locally, we’re reminding people of the many benefits of markets.
Stuck for gift ideas this Valentine’s Day? Our markets are the ideal place to find some irresistible treats for your loved one. You’ll be spoilt for choice what to get, with items like luxury chocolates, jewellery, fragrances and fresh cut flowers on offer.
Or why not treat your lucky Valentine with a home cooked meal made with local meats and fish available at Calderdale’s six indoor and outdoor markets – Halifax Borough market, Todmorden market hall, Todmorden open market, Sowerby Bridge open market, Elland open market and Hebden Bridge open market, and local community markets such as Ripponden and Mytholmroyd.
And on Sunday 9February enjoy Hebden Bridge Local Food and Crafts market, where you will be able to pick up the perfect handmade gifts and cards, and that special something to complement your home cooked Valentine’s Day dinner.
Not only do you receive quality and great value shopping at your local market, but you are guaranteed to enjoy a shopping experience very different from chain store retailers. Shopping at Calderdale markets allows shoppers to browse at their leisure, soak in years of history and have real conversations with people who are passionate about the products they sell. You’ll find stall holders happy to take the time to advise you on their products, recommend recipes and share a laugh and a joke.
From Friday 14 February, shoppers visiting Halifax Borough Market can make their connection with the world using free Wifi facilities throughout the market.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Cllr Barry Collins, said:
“We’ve always known how great our local markets are for shopping, and it’s brilliant that Ripponden community market has been recognised nationally. This is a real example of the Council and the community working together as part of our campaign to encourage people to shop locally.
“There has been a big move recently towards the markets stocking and selling local produce, and many stalls now sell a variety of products such as venison, eggs, fruit, honey, cheese and chutney – all reared and made in Calderdale.
“We’re also making it easier for shoppers to find what they need at the touch of a button, using free wifi. If it’s ingredients for a recipe you’ve seen and you need to search the internet, you can now search for free and buy what you need from our markets.”
Visit your local market this Valentine’s Day and bring your shopping experience to life – local grown, handpicked products served with a real smile!
