Make a difference – make it Calderdale Council

An inspiring new recruitment campaign is inviting people to “make a difference – make it Calderdale Council.”

The Council has launched the campaign to let more people know about its job vacancies and the many benefits of working for an organisation that helps to change lives across our communities.

This is in response to the highly competitive recruitment market, staff shortages in some services and the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused many people to reconsider what they want from life, such as a new career.

The Council is committed to nurturing talent and actively encourages apprentices to join its workforce. This is National Apprenticeship Week (7 – 13 February 2022) and as part of the new recruitment campaign, the Council is sharing the story of Tom Kearns, who started working for the Council as a Community Safety Warden and is now studying for an environmental health degree alongside being an Apprentice Environmental Health Officer at the Council.

Tom said:

“Working for the Council is more than just sitting at a desk from 9 to 5. It’s about helping people who maybe can’t get help anywhere else. I’m happy that I can contribute to that and protect people. I’ve found a rewarding job where I can make a difference to people’s lives, do what I enjoy and develop myself. The Council feels like one big team – everyone supports each other. There is flexibility and a good work/life balance. No two days are ever the same.”

Cllr Silvia Dacre, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources, said:

“From the people who keep our roads moving and clean our streets, to those who help us stay healthy and care for vulnerable children and adults, Council employees are making a difference to local people’s lives every day, through more than 600 services.

“As in many organisations, staff shortages and a competitive recruitment market are putting a strain on some of our services. Our new workforce campaign aims to increase applications for Council jobs and match talented people with their perfect role.

“Our campaign tagline, ‘Make a difference – make it Calderdale Council’ highlights that by working for the Council, you can be part of a team that helps to make Calderdale a better place for everyone. We will support you to grow and achieve your best.”

As part of the campaign, films featuring current Council staff are being posted on social media to show what they enjoy about working for the Council and how they are making a difference.
