Make the most of the Tour de Yorkshire

Calderdale Council

The Tour de Yorkshire is on its way to Calderdale on Sunday 3 May, and to help local businesses make the most of the occasion, a series of information sessions have been organised.

As we gear up for race weekend, Business and Community Roadshows are being held across Yorkshire, including stops at Hebden Bridge and Ripponden. The sessions will offer face-to-face advice with information about how to make the most of this exciting event.

The roadshows will be held at Hebden Bridge Town Hall on Thursday 19 March  (registration from 6.15pm – 6.30pm start) and Ripponden Junior and Infant School, Ward Forum on Tuesday 31 March (registration from 6.30pm – 6.45pm start).

The Welcome to Yorkshire team and Calderdale Council staff will be on hand to offer more information about the race and answer any queries for businesses both on and off the route. They will also offer advice for businesses on promotion, including brand guidelines for the race and key messages.

The Leader of Calderdale Council, Cllr Stephen Baines, said:

“Last year’s Tour de France was a great success, bringing £12.5 million into the local economy, so it’s great news that we can yet again show what Calderdale has to offer when the Tour de Yorkshire cycles through the borough.

“As well as being an exciting day out for visitors to the area, the race offers a number of fantastic opportunities for businesses. These roadshows will help businesses to make the most of these opportunities, with experts on hand to give advice.”

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:

“We saw a huge appetite for all things Yorkshire last year when we hosted the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, and this new race will bring back some of the world’s best teams. This means spectators from far and wide and the most fantastic advert our county can wish for – global television coverage. The roadshows will help businesses prepare in the run up to the event, race days themselves and of course long in to the future as we establish Yorkshire as Europe’s number one cycling destination.”
