A new web resource is helping local people to find out more information about the opportunities available to support adults in Calderdale, all in one place.

The Community Information Directory(external link) has been developed by Calderdale Council, in partnership with local health and community partners.

This free, interactive resource is a searchable directory which brings together information from Calderdale groups, activities, organisations, buildings, and spaces, connecting people to support and opportunities in their local community.

The resource has recently been expanded to include opportunities for adults, in addition to existing content to support families with children.

The directory is split into two sections, one focused on early years, childcare and education resources and now an additional section providing information for adults. People can also use the site to find their local NHS services, such as GP surgeries, pharmacies or dentists.

The site has easy to navigate buttons to help people find relevant information, including topics such as money and finances, health and wellbeing, leisure clubs and activities and getting out and about.

In addition to highlighting important public services, the directory also aims to make it easier for people to get involved in community activities, providing opportunities to meet other people, socialise and experience the many benefits to wellbeing.

The directory belongs to everyone in Calderdale and will continue to grow as more people upload their activities. Local organisations, groups and activity organisers can register to promote their opportunities on the site, to ensure the directory accurately reflects how much is going on in Calderdale communities.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults Services and Wellbeing, Cllr Diana Tremayne, said:

“There are so many great opportunities in Calderdale, and the launch of the newly expanded community directory will allow people to easily search for activities in their local area, supporting people’s wellbeing, reducing social isolation and perhaps allowing people to find new hobbies or interests.

“The site also connects people to services in their community to help them stay healthy and improve their quality of life. With sections from early years to older adults, there’s something for every stage of life, including health and financial support, as well as important advice for carers.

“The site is for local communities but will grow with the support of local groups and organisations, as more people get involved and add their own opportunities. Initial feedback has been really positive, but we want to encourage more people to get involved to create a one-stop-shop to share and promote local activities and services for the benefit of everyone.”
