Calderdale Council is about to carry out essential maintenance to Law Lane and Bank Top in Southowram, between Cain Lane and the top of Southowram Bank.

Repair works will be taking place on the ageing carriageway, involving the planing and resurfacing of the road. The work is due to start on Monday 20 July and should be completed by Friday 14 August.

To ensure the safety of road users and the workforce, it will be necessary to close the road from 8:30am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, for the duration of the works.

Access for emergency vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times and residential traffic will be accommodated. Residents will receive a letter advising them of the timings and location of the work so they can plan their route accordingly.

A diversion will be in place, directing traffic via Brighouse, Hipperholme and Halifax.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, Cllr Barry Collins, said:

“The road between Cain Lane and the top of Southowram Bank is in a poor condition and has deteriorated owing to a number of recent utility works in the area and the high number of vehicles that use it.

“Because the road is so busy, we’ve arranged for the work to be carried out during the school holidays and between the morning and evening rush hours, to try and minimise disruption as much as possible.”
