Statement on flooding

Council staff, community flood wardens and contractors have been working hard with residents to manage the flood threat from the rainstorm. While there has been some localised flooding of highways and low lying spots, defences have generally held.

Six gangs of staff and two gully wagons have been out and about in the Valley responding to rising waters. Roads are beginning to re-open and becoming passable with care, but please consider whether your journey is really necessary.

Another rain bearing depression is due shortly but it should be a little less intense than Saturday night’s deluge. The outlook for the week remains wet and Council staff will be focusing on flood prevention and response work.
