Organisations across Calderdale have come together to help understand the best ways they can support residents to stay warm and well this winter.
Calderdale Council, as part of the borough’s Anti-Poverty Partnership, hosted an event at the Shay Stadium in Halifax, exploring ways to help everyone to stay warm and live sustainably.
The event welcomed over 120 people from across health, voluntary, community and education sectors to hear more about how working together can better support low-income households around issues such as affordable warmth, the cost of living crisis and living sustainably.
The event programme included a range of presentations and stalls at a marketplace event, where people could find out more about key projects, schemes and services. This included highlighting the Council’s Healthy Homes work, to support residents struggling to stay warm in the cost of living crisis because of high energy bills. Local partner, Together Housing, also spoke about how retrofit work can make homes more energy efficient and support Net Zero ambitions.
The Council has a longstanding commitment to work in partnership with statutory and voluntary sector partners to support the borough’s most vulnerable residents. The event was an opportunity to highlight local support and how staff and volunteers across the partnership can effectively provide information, guidance and signposting help to residents.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Services and Communities, Cllr Danielle Durrans, said:
“As the weather turns colder, we know that people are understandably worried about their finances and their wellbeing. Along with our partners, we want to offer as much support as possible to help residents who may be struggling.
“At the recent partnership event, we heard from local organisations about the challenges that people are facing and how we can work together to best support residents.
“This was also an opportunity to raise awareness about the wide variety of support which is already available and ensure that the partnership has the knowledge and tools to offer advice to help money go further.
“We’re also working hard to ensure that everyone is able to claim the help to which they’re entitled. There’s lots of information and advice available on our Money and Wellbeing website: www.calderdale.gov.uk/mwic(external link).”
