Hebden Bridge sculptor, Sally Barker, is Artist in Residence at Ogden Water Nature Reserve and is inviting the public to come and see her work in a special Open Day on Saturday 23 November 2024.
From 1.30 – 4pm members of the public will be invited to meet Sally and see the work she has been doing as part of her residency.
Sally plans to share the work she has been making in response to the beautiful natural surroundings at Ogden Water.
“I am developing ideas around our relationship with the natural environment, making new sculptures inspired by natural structures and networks.” Sally said.
“I am interested in human interference and interface with nature, both nurturing and destructive.”
People are invited to drop in to see what Sally has been making, where they will have the opportunity to handle some of the sculpture, share ideas and learn about the processes involved.
Sally has been Ogden Water’s Artist in Residence since September. She has been spending time on site, working with natural materials and hosting engagement sessions with local community groups, including the Women’s Centre and St Augustine’s Centre in Halifax.
Sally is one of five artists to be commissioned in Everybody Arts’ Artist in Residence programme, part of CultureDale’s Year of Culture.
As a key CultureDale(external link) project, Calderdale artists are being given the opportunity to spend six weeks in some of the area’s most iconic venues, bringing their practice and ideas to communities across the borough. Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Services and Communities, Cllr Danielle Durrans, said:
“The Open Day at Ogden Water is a great opportunity to get a sneak peek at the exciting work that has been taking place as part of the CultureDale Artist Residency project.
“Ogden Water is one of Calderdale’s most famous beauty spots, and it will be fascinating to see how this talented artist has been inspired by the landscape to create their work.
“The project is one of CultureDale’s 12 key commissions, in partnership with local creative organisations. Events like this Open Day ensure everyone can get involved and feel part of CultureDale. By bringing culture and creativity into everyone’s lives, we’re ensuring our Year of Culture is one to remember.”
