Calderdale Council is ‘picking up’ where it left off, continuing its Big Clean campaign after the hard work of Council staff, Councillors, volunteers and partners last month.
The last clean up took place at the end of April, with teams using sweepers and litter pickers to remove tonnes of rubbish and debris from areas across Calderdale.
The next phase of the clean up will begin in Halifax North and East on Monday 13 May, with meeting points at Mixenden Library at 9am and Beechwood Park car park, Heathy Lane at 1pm.
The teams will then move on to the Lower Valley on Tuesday 14 May, with the Halifax Central area being smartened up on Thursday 16 May, before finishing in the Upper Valley on Friday 17 May.
Starting points for the clean ups are:

Mixenden Library, Mixenden Road at 9am
Beechwood Park car park, Heathy Lane at 1pm
Tuesday 14 May Lower Valley

Calderdale Councils Leader, Cllr Tim Swift, said:
“I’m really pleased the Big Clean campaign has taken off; the efforts last month really made a difference. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the last clean up, and encourage as many volunteers as possible to come along to the next sessions. I hope this will highlight the message that dropping litter is simply not on.”
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Pauline Nash, added:
“It’s great news that the clean up is continuing in other parts of the borough. The weather finally seems to be improving, and it would be fantastic if people got involved to really make Calderdale sparkle.”
Volunteers will need to dress for the occasion. Strong, comfortable boots or shoes will be needed; perhaps also warm, waterproof clothing and headgear. Gloves are essential if litter picking by hand. Litter pickers and bags will be provided by Calderdale Council.
The third phase of the campaign will be taking place in early June.
