Volunteering in Calderdale Museums

Calderdale Council is looking for volunteers to join the Supporters of Calderdale Museums team. So if you’ve ever wanted to volunteer in museums but didnt know how, or you’d like to be involved with the museum service but don’t have time to regularly commit, then this volunteer programme could be for you.

Following a successful bid to the Arts Council, Calderdale Council’s Museums service is re-launching its volunteer programme with an introductory talk at Bankfield Museum, Halifax on Saturday 2 February 2013 from 2 – 3pm.

The talk will look at the wide variety of opportunities to volunteer in Calderdale Museums, and give an idea of the projects undertaken by museum volunteers in the past, and the plans for the future.

There will also be an opportunity to view pieces picked from the collections by current volunteers in an exhibition running from Saturday 2 February to Sunday 3 March 2013.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Pauline Nash, said:

“Volunteering really seems to be in the spotlight at the moment, and Calderdale Museums have been in the forefront. Volunteers are an integral part of the service, and their freely given time, knowledge and skills are incredibly valued.”

Opportunities are wide and varied, and could be at any of the sites across Calderdale. If you are interested in joining the scheme or just seeing the new and varied exhibits, Bankfield Museum is open Tuesday –Saturday, 10am – 5pm, Sunday 1 – 4pm, with last admission half an hour before closing.
