Calderdale residents could save money and help protect the environment with the launch of a new composting scheme.
Calderdale Council is teaming up with Get Composting to offer residents the chance to save money on compost bins, with prices starting from £16.
There is also a ‘buy one get one half price’ offer, meaning that if friends and neighbours buy together, they can save even more.
This offer is available until April, when prices are set to increase, so now is the time to act to get the best savings.
Composting is a great way for households to reduce the amount of waste they send to landfill sites, and the resulting carbon emissions. More than a third of household waste is made up of organic material which can be composted. Grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, unwanted plants, fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags and even the contents of a vacuum bag are all ideal for composting.
Not only is composting great for the environment, but it can also be beneficial to gardens, as it improves the quality of soil, making it ideal for growing flowers and plants.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Cllr Barry Collins, says:
“This is an opportunity to get a great bargain and help the environment. Composting can really make a difference, both to your garden and by reducing the amount of waste that is sent to landfill sites. I hope people will take advantage of this great offer before prices increase in April.”
The offer is available on the Get Composting(external link)| website, or by calling 0844 571 4444.
