Snow in Calderdale – update on Council services

Calderdale Council’s highways team are working hard to clear main roads across Calderdale as a result of the snow. Whilst the snow has now stopped falling, the wind is making it difficult for snow drifts to be cleared. The Council’s snow clearing programme is now under way and the team are doing everything they can to help keep traffic moving and respond to emergency calls.

The Met Office have advised that temperatures are due to fall below freezing this evening so please be careful when travelling and only make essential journeys. The highways team continue to lay grit on main roads to try and reduce the impact of ice.

Some public transport services are still affected. You can find the latest information from the following websites:

The Council is urging residents to look out for one another. If you know someone who may be vulnerable or elderly, please check on them. In an emergency, the Council’s out of hours telephone service can be contacted.

If you need to contact us in an emergency, please dial the Council’s out of hours service on 0845 11 11 137. Alternatively, the Council’s Contact Centre will be open from 7.30am on Monday 25 March 2013.

An update on snow clearance and Council services will be available tomorrow morning. You can listen to Radio Leeds for school closures, visit the Council’s website or contact your child’s school in the normal way.

Please be careful on the roads and only travel if absolutely necessary.
