In response to the Government’s Spending Review, the Leader of Calderdale Council, Cllr Tim Swift said:
“The financial pressures already facing Calderdale after ten years of austerity have only been made worse by the significant challenges we have faced throughout the pandemic as we have worked to keep our communities safe whilst continuing to deliver vital services. The impact of this will undoubtedly be felt in the years to come.
“So whilst it is welcome that the Chancellor has announced additional funding for some of these additional costs next year, a longer term and sustainable funding solution is required for local government.
“The spending review does include some increase in funding for local authorities and in particular, for adult social care. This is welcome, but it should be noted that a large part of this extra funding will have to come from local taxpayers.
“As always with these statements, the devil will be in the detail, and we will need to understand quickly what this means for Calderdale as we work on our own budget plans for the next financial year.”
