Motorists in Calderdale are being advised that a section of the Calderdale Way (A629) will be closed over two weekends in May.
The uphill section of the road (towards Ainley Top roundabout) will be surface-dressed, sealing the existing road surface and prolonging its life. The downhill section (towards Halifax) will remain open as usual. However, this work is weather-dependent and cannot be carried out if there is heavy rain.
It is necessary to close the section of the road from Salterhebble to Ainley Top roundabout over the weekends of 9 and 10 and 16 and 17 May to carry out these essential maintenance works safely. A diversion will be in place using Stainland Road, Saddleworth Road, through Elland onto Dewsbury Road and New Hey Road, before joining back up with the A629 at Ainley Top Advance warning signs have been placed across the borough advising of the closure and asking drivers to seek an alternative route.
A 20mph speed limit will be in place from Monday 11 to Friday 15 May for the safety of motorists as there will initially be some loose chippings on the road.
Calderdale Council’s Head of Planning and Highways, Geoff Willerton, said:
“These works will increase the life of the road and improve the driving surface for motorists using this busy route.
“We will do all that we can to complete the work as quickly as possible, and thank people in advance for their patience.”
