Cast your vote for your favourite market

Christmas markets

Do you love your local market? If so, vote for your favourite in the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) awards.

The NABMA awards are among the most respected and highest accolades for markets in the country. Voting is now open in the Britain’s Favourite Market category, with people invited to cast their vote before Wednesday 10 January 2017.

To help Calderdale markets achieve this coveted title, simply go to www.nabma.com/britainsfavouritemarket(external link) and enter the name of the local market you love the most. You can vote as many times as you like for your favourite.

If you can’t decide which to vote for, why not pay a visit to your local Calderdale market for inspiration? The indoor markets run by the Council are Halifax Borough Market and Todmorden Market Hall, as well as Open Markets in Elland, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden.

If you haven’t visited for a while this is the perfect time to get reacquainted. Whether it’s last minute gifts or food for the big day, Calderdale Market Halls are open as normal right up to Christmas Eve.

There are also decorations and nibbles for any New Year gatherings, with Halifax and Todmorden markets only closing for the bank holidays and open as normal on New Year’s Eve.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, Cllr Barry Collins, said:

“We’ve some wonderful markets in Calderdale, with a wide variety of stalls, making shopping locally a real alternative to the high street chains and supermarkets.

“Achieving the title of Britain’s Favourite Market would be a fantastic addition to the awards already won by the markets service this year, including the NABMA Team of the Year award. Why not choose your favourite and cast your vote?”
