On Saturday 8 December, Bankfield Museum is hosting a special Christmas Fair showcasing unique products alongside museum exhibits.
The fair will be held from 10am-3pm throughout the museum, which will be packed with stalls offering a wide variety of local crafts and produce just in time for the festive season.
Alongside the stalls, there are also some great gift ideas in the Bankfield Museum gift shop, including the Anne Lister guidebook which explores Anne’s life and those who lived at Shibden Hall and the estate.
Visitors can also see the new Women Travellers exhibition, which focuses on the lives of four extraordinary women; Anne Lister, Edith Durham, Liz Humphries and Gertrude Bell.
The exhibition tells the story of their journeys, the objects they collected and the many people they met along the way. Objects on display include outfits they wore to travel in, notebooks, photographs and many of the fascinating items they brought back.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhood Services, Cllr Susan Press, said:
“The Bankfield Christmas Fair is the perfect excuse to visit Bankfield Museum. There’ll be dozens of independent stall holders hosting a variety of arts and crafts that will make great gift ideas.
“As well as picking up Christmas presents for others, you can also treat yourself by taking in the exhibitions on display at the museum, including the new Women Travellers exhibition.”
If you can’t make it to the fair but are looking for the perfect gift for an art lover, hundreds of images from Calderdale Council’s collection of oil paintings are available online to select, buy and print for your own home.
Nearly 300 high-resolution images are now available at www.art.co.uk(external link) (search for Calderdale Museums) including the main portrait of Anne Lister of Shibden Hall, the subject of the Gentleman Jack TV series, filmed at Shibden, which will air on BBC and HBO next year.
