The latest plans for active travel routes in Todmorden will be available to view at upcoming information events in the town.
Over the next two years, £17.5million is being invested in Todmorden as part of the Town Deal regeneration programme funded by the UK Government.
Calderdale Council is the lead for the Active Todmorden project, on behalf of the Todmorden Town Board. The project will enable more people to travel actively as part of their everyday journeys and improve access for everyone to Todmorden.
On Thursday 24 and Saturday 26 October 2024 from 10am to 2pm, the project team will be available at Todmorden Market for people to find out more about the latest plans for the project and share their feedback on proposals.
The £3.2million Active Todmorden project is designed to promote healthier communities and create a more attractive and welcoming town which aims to:
· Provide an accessible and attractive pedestrian environment in the town centre and on the routes into the town.
· Improve pedestrian access and strengthen links between the Rail Station to the town centre.
· Establish a walking and cycling network, using the Burnley Road corridor for connections north/south.
People visiting the market will be able to view the latest plans, speak to the project team about the proposals and ask any questions. For those unable to make the event, the plans will also be available online at todmordentowndeal.co.uk(external link), with an opportunity to share feedback.
The feedback shared at the market events and collected online will be used to inform the final stages of the project’s development.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Cllr Sarah Courtney, said:
“We’ve been reviewing the plans for the Active Todmorden project and we’re pleased to be able to share the latest proposals to improve opportunities within Todmorden for walking and cycling, allowing more people to access and enjoy everything the town has to offer.
“We share people’s passion and ambition for the town, and we want to give people the opportunity to view the latest proposals and speak to the project team to clarify what is planned, ask questions and share feedback.
“We’re committed to ensuring that we can deliver the right scheme for Todmorden, so please come along to the market events or share your feedback online to help us deliver a scheme that works for the programme and for the town.”
Eight projects make up the Todmorden Town Deal and in addition to the Active Todmorden project, the Council has also been continuing work on the Public Places in the Heart of Todmorden project. This project aims to support local businesses and the markets, encourage more visitors to the town and promote walking and cycling.
Work has been progressing with land surveying and design and the Council will be providing an update on this exciting development work to the businesses and communities of Todmorden, later this year.
Other projects as part of the Town Deal include the redevelopment of the Town Hall and Hippodrome Theatre; improvements at Centre Vale Park and Todmorden Community College; the creation of a new Enterprise Centre at Ferney Lee; and the development of new sports opportunities for all abilities at the Riverside Centre.
Pam Warhurst, Chair, Todmorden Town Deal Board said:
“This is an important opportunity for people to view the latest proposals for Active Todmorden following feedback from local people and businesses, and a review of the plans by our project partner, Calderdale Council.
“The Board’s priority is to achieve more varied and healthy access options for residents and visitors alike as they travel to work or explore and shop in our town, so we hope as many people as possible share their views on the latest proposals and help shape the plans.”
