Ten thousand downloads, orders worth over £710,000 and 16,000-plus
young people’s tickets purchased every month.

Almost 10,000 people in West Yorkshire have downloaded the MCard app that enables them to buy and load travel tickets anytime, anywhere straight from any Android smartphone. The MCard app is being downloaded by 45 new customers every day from Google Play store, with a total of orders worth over £710,000.

Launched in August 2017, the free android app enables customers to buy and load daily, weekly and monthly bus and rail tickets for travel throughout West Yorkshire.

Over 16,000 young people’s tickets, which can be used on all West Yorkshire bus operators’ services are being purchased every month with the app.

Comments among customer feedback about the app are ‘Easy and clear to use, saving time in every aspect’, ‘Really convenient as it allows you to top up your MCard on the move,’ ‘Great app, I hate queuing and missing buses and this has stopped me doing both!”.

Cllr Keith Wakefield, West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee Chair, said:

“Since its launch in 2014, MCard has become the leading smart card travel in the North and one of the largest and most successful outside of London’s long-established Oyster card.

“People in West Yorkshire are using MCards to make 360,000 journeys every week and by enabling them to buy and upload tickets wherever and whenever suits them, the MCard app is revolutionising their travel.

“Making travel in West Yorkshire by bus and train easier and more affordable is key to supporting our aim of connecting more people with new jobs and training opportunities and through the ongoing development of MCard, money-saving tickets and the app, we are achieving this.”

Passengers can also use automatic ticket machines at Bradford Interchange, Castleford, Dewsbury, Halifax, Huddersfield, Keighley, Leeds, Pontefract and Wakefield bus stations to buy and load MCard bus travel. Alternatively for bus and rail travel they can use ticket machines located at 38 West Yorkshire rail stations or visit 700 West Yorkshire Payzone outlets.
