Elland Road in Brighouse will remain closed while assessments continue following damage caused by ground movement.
A large crack has appeared in the road around the junction with Park Road, by Ash Grove Pipeworks, requiring the road to be completely closed.
Calderdale Council attended the site as soon as the slip became apparent, along with structural engineers from partner consultants.
Due to the extent of the damage, the Council has appointed geo-technical experts to carry out further inspections of the area.
The road closure will remain in place until the results of these surveys are received and the best course of action can be established.
Calderdale Council’s Assistant Director for Strategic Infrastructure, Steven Lee, said:
“We apologise for the inconvenience this closure may be causing. We’re currently working with specialists to determine the extent of the damage to the road and the best course of action to undertake repairs.
“Unfortunately, this kind of damage requires extensive repair work, so the road is likely to remain closed, or partially closed, for some time. However we’re working hard to reopen the road as soon as possible – ensuring this is done in the safest and most effective manner.”
