This festive season, Calderdale Council is highlighting the many advantages of shopping at local markets, with the ‘Christmas Under One Roof’ campaign.

The new campaign, which runs throughout December, features local traders from Halifax Borough Market and showcases the wide range of stalls on offer at the market through films on social media, local adverts and an updated Calderdale markets web page

From butchers and grocers to clothes stalls and pet stores, the ‘Christmas Under One Roof’ videos capture the kindness, talent and enterprise of traders, and their role in helping people through the cost of living crisis. They highlight the many benefits of shopping at the market, including value for money, locally sourced products, high quality, special offers and personal advice –the things that make markets so special all year round.

The market is hosting events throughout the Christmas period, including a specialist Christmas market and record fair on 10 December, carol singing, with Wainstalls School choir visiting on 12 December, and other festive treats. The market’s Albany Arcade also has a seating area for visitors to enjoy and take a break from the shopping.

There’s plenty for children to enjoy too, with a special festive singing post box as well as the opportunity to take part in a special reindeer trail. Those searching for Rudolph and his friends can pick up entry sheets at the arcade entrances and drop them off in the box on the stage in the Albany Arcade. As an extra incentive, all correct entries will go into a draw to win a £25 toy voucher.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Strategy, Cllr Jane Scullion, said:

“The cost of living crisis is hitting businesses as well as residents and our teams and partner organisations continue to do all they can to support them.

“The ‘Christmas Under One Roof’ campaign focuses on the wonderful experience offered by our markets, with traders from Halifax Borough Market highlighting the many great reasons to visit them this Christmas.

“Our markets offer something for everyone, all year around, but at Christmas they’re even more special. Visitors can enjoy special festive events and experiences, as well as getting Christmas wrapped up, all ‘Under One Roof’.”

The ‘Christmas Under One Roof’ campaign supports Calderdale’s local businesses and is an important part of the Council priority for thriving towns and places across the borough.
