The Three Lions will soon be roaring into Halifax, as the England C team visit the Shay Stadium on Tuesday 18 November.
The match, against Estonia Under-23s, will take place at the Shay, after Calderdale Council and FC Halifax Town successfully negotiated with the FA for the chance to host England C’s final International Challenge Trophy match.
The England C team is made up of Under-23 players from the non-League game, and this will be the first time the team has played at the Shay. However some of the squad are likely to be familiar with the ground, as two players from FC Halifax Town, Matthew Pearson and Marc Roberts featured in England C’s last match against Turkey in Istanbul.
Entry to the fixture is free, and on top of this, there’s the chance to win cash prizes at half time. Each person entering the ground will be given a raffle ticket as they come through the turnstiles, with a top prize of £1000.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Marcus Thompson, said:
“It’s fantastic for Calderdale that the Shay is hosting an England C game. We’ve worked hard to improve facilities at the Shay, and it’s great that the FA have been impressed enough to award us with an international fixture.
“We really want the Stadium to be packed out. If we can reach an attendance of 6,000, it will be the biggest crowd ever to watch an England C fixture.
“The match is free to attend for both adults and children, plus there are some great cash prizes up for grabs at half time. There really is no excuse not to come along to cheer on the Three Lions.”
England C vs Estonia Under-23s kicks off at 7.30pm on Tuesday 18 November. There are no advance tickets for this match, just turn up on the day. For more information about sport in Calderdale visit www.calderdale.gov.uk/leisure/sport-fitness/
