West Yorkshire Combined Authority is urging people whose trains were delayed to check whether they are eligible and if so, to make a claim through a new special compensation scheme.
New procedures, which rail companies Northern and TransPennine Express have agreed with the government, are now in place for passengers who have been affected or severely delayed by the introduction of new rail timetables to claim compensation.
Cllr Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council and the Combined Authority’s representative on the Transport for the North board said:
“When the scale of the disruption caused by the introduction of the new, flawed timetables emerged, we called for a comprehensive package which properly compensates passengers across the North of England.
“While the scheme that has now been announced is a step in the right direction it doesn’t go far enough and will be continuing to press for more.
“In the meantime I would encourage all rail users who had to endure these problems to find out if they are eligible and if so, to make a claim.”
Compensation is available for people with season tickets, including MCards, travelling from all stations on the following routes in or through West Yorkshire:
Northern
- Leeds to York via Cross Gates (Northern)
- Leeds to Selby (Northern)
- Leeds to Nottingham via Barnsley (Northern)
- Manchester Victoria to Bradford/Leeds via Huddersfield and Halifax (Northern)
- Manchester Victoria to Leeds via Rochdale (Northern)
