Local playgrounds are an important part of family life for many people – from having a family trip out or spending time with friends, to exercising or watching wildlife. Now Calderdale Council is giving people the chance to shape improvements to play areas across the borough.
People who visit Calderdale’s play areas – whether that’s the bigger playgrounds in parks or smaller local play areas – can share what they think by completing a short survey.
The survey asks people what matters to them in Calderdale’s play areas, why they choose to visit particular ones, how easy they are to get to, what activities they or their children enjoy the most, what the equipment is like, whether they feel safe there, and if any improvements are needed.

The Council will use the information to make plans for improvement and development of play areas in the future.
Cllr Danielle Durrans, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Services and Communities, said:
“We run more than 100 play areas across the whole of Calderdale. We are proud to offer a range of inclusive facilities for children (and grown-ups) of all ages and abilities, including multi-use games areas, fitness equipment, water play and wheeled sports.
“Trips to playgrounds can be a big part of making family memories, and are a great way to keep children active and entertained for free, to develop and to enjoy being outside in nature.
“We care what people think of our play areas because providing safe, accessible and high-quality play opportunities helps to give young people the best possible start in life, and supports our priority to reduce inequalities.
“By taking part in the play area survey, people can tell us what they think and be involved in shaping play provision for current and future generations.”
