Waste and recycling services for residents in Calderdale will soon be delivered by a new partnership between Calderdale Council and Norse Group.
Calderdale Council manages more than 7.5 million scheduled waste collections from around 95,000 households each year. The Council’s current waste and recycling collection contract with SUEZ will expire at the end of July 2026.
Under the new arrangement, Calderdale Norse will deliver household waste and recycling collections and manage Household Waste Recycling Centres across the borough.
The new partnership begins on 1 August 2026. Residents won’t need to do anything differently. Collection days, recycling arrangements and contact routes will all stay the same, helping to ensure a smooth handover with minimal disruption. Calderdale Council’s Leader, Cllr Dan Sutherland, said:
“Our priorities are focused around the issues that matter most to local people. Waste services are used by every household in the borough, so it’s important the service is delivered efficiently and effectively.
“Through the new Calderdale Norse partnership, we will work together to demonstrate our commitment to delivering high-quality, value for money services.”
Employees currently delivering waste services under the existing arrangement will transfer into Calderdale Norse, helping maintain continuity of service and keeping valued local expertise in place.
Alongside delivering essential services, Calderdale Norse will also focus on supporting the local economy and wider community. The partnership is expected to create social value through local job opportunities, skills and development and support for small and medium-sized businesses.
