We’re now well into the school summer holidays, the time when children and parents are looking for entertaining ways to fill the last few weeks of freedom from the classroom. Luckily there are plenty of activities happening in Calderdale that will make the time fly by, whatever the gloriously unpredictable Yorkshire weather throws at us!
Come rain or shine it’s always great to have a swim at one of the Council’s four pools. Over the school holidays there are extra swimming sessions added to the timetable, along with bonus fun swims with giant floats.
If getting out in the great outdoors is more your thing, there are athletics sessions at Spring Hall running track near Halifax, on Monday to Thursday evenings and Saturday morning, or why not book onto the tennis courts at Brighouse Fitness Centre, or football pitches at North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax.
If your child is football mad, there are Summer Sports School courses every week at Todmorden Sports Centre run by FA qualified coaches, or at the Shay Stadium in Halifax, where you can book individual days or for the full week. There are also multi-activity XS school holiday sessions at North Bridge Leisure Centre, where you can try out a new sport or improve your skills.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Marcus Thompson, said:
“Calderdale Council’s pools and sports centres have an exciting range of activities for families and children throughout the holidays. Whatever the weather, there are fantastic sporting options to help you get the most out of your summer.”
You can search for an activity on the Council’s website www.calderdale.gov.uk/sport or pick up your copy of the Council’s summer Do Something guide, which is packed full of summer fun and is available at sports centres, libraries and museums.
