On Thursday 13 August, Calderdale Council’s Economy and Environment Scrutiny Panel will meet to review how the recovery from the devastating floods that affected parts of the borough three years ago has progressed and to find out what more still needs to be done.
Parts of the Upper Valley were severely affected by unprecedented flooding in summer 2012 and further flooding in 2013. Since that time a lot of work has been done within the Council to help flood hit properties and also try and prevent further flooding in this area, and across the borough.
Scrutiny will now look at how successful this work has been and what can be done in the future.
The Chair of the Economy and Environment Scrutiny Panel, Cllr James Baker, said:
“This meeting gives those who were affected by the significant and devastating flood events of three years ago a further opportunity to come together, share their experiences and to let us know their views about progress and any barriers to recovery since that time. This will help to feed in further valuable information to help the Council and partner organisations plan for the future.
“The Panel would like to hear from the volunteer flood wardens from the Flood Groups that were set up in Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd and Todmorden in the immediate aftermath of the floods, along with the views of the Council and its partner organisations, such as the Environment Agency.”
He added
“The Scrutiny Panel is also very keen to hear the views of local residents, particularly those who were directly affected by the flooding, along with the views of any representatives of the local Parish and Town Councils and Calderdale Councillors.
“Members of the public are welcome to attend the Scrutiny Panel meeting and I look forward to hearing their views.”
The meeting will be held at 6pm on Thursday 13 August at Halifax Town Hall.
