The new Wildside guide is now available, bringing together all the walks and events run by Calderdale Councils Countryside and Woodlands Service in one handy booklet.
There’s something for everyone in this useful guide, from activities with the family to educational events and guided walks.
This year’s programme starts with a walk led by Hebden Bridge Walkers Action who are promoting use of the rural bus service 906, which runs between Hebden Bridge and Widdop. The group are holding two walks on Sunday 3 March, both starting from the bus stop outside Hebden Bridge Railway Station.
Other programme highlights include a return visit to Cragg Vale brewery led by Mytholmroyd Walkers Action and two chances to learn how to understand maps and navigate using a compass, which will be based in the classroom at Ogden Water.
Calderdale Cyclist Touring Club will also be organising some rides out around Calderdale.
For families, we have a return visit by Creeping Toad, who will be telling stories and making crafts connected to fairies and trolls. There will also be a visit from animal lover Jay who will be bringing his snakes, spiders and meerkats to visit Ogden Water during the summer holidays.
In addition, there are geology walks led by the West Yorkshire Geology Trust, focussing on the rocks beneath our feet, and a chance to learn about the birdlife around Cromwell Bottom in December.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Pauline Nash, said:
“We are delighted that once again we have such an exciting range of activities and walks, giving people a chance to explore and be inspired by the beautiful Calderdale countryside. There is something here for everybody.”
Wildside guides are available in local tourist information centres, libraries and sports centres throughout Calderdale. For more information visit Calderdale walks.
