Joel Lavery, Partnerships National Partnerships Manager for British Cycling said:
“2012 was a truly fantastic year for cycling, with Bradley Wiggins becoming first British winner of the Tour de France, the success of Team GB cyclists at the Olympics and Sport England’s announcement that 200,000 more people are now cycling more regularly than in 2011. All aspects of cycling are booming and that’s why we’re particularly excited to be bringing these Ride Leader courses to West Yorkshire and meeting the inspirational people who will be encouraging the local community to get on their bike and have fun.”
Calderdale Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Cllr Barry Collins, said:
“Ride Leadership is a great way to bring local people together and continue to build excitement for cycling as we eagerly await the Tour de France coming to Calderdale in summer 2014. Hopefully it will encourage local cyclists to get involved and help inspire our communities to enjoy cycling for sport and for fun.”
After completing the leadership award, Ride Leaders will receive free kit and British Cycling Ride membership. Anyone interested in attending the course should visit goskyride.com(external link)| or email skyride@britishcycling.org.uk and tell us a little about yourself and why you would make a great Ride Leader.
