Celebrating World Book Night in Calderdale

Calderdale Council is encouraging local people to get involved in the celebrations for World Book Night.

On Tuesday 23 April 2013, thousands of volunteers across the country will be taking part in the national event, by distributing specially selected World Book Night books in their local communities, sharing their love of reading.

This date was chosen to coincide with the date of Shakespeare’s birth and death, and also the UNESCO International Day of Books.

As part of the celebrations on World Book Night, Todmorden Library is hosting a special event from 7.00pm until 8.00pm, where people can get hold of one of the free World Book Night titles.

The library has 20 copies of ‘Me Before You’ by JoJo Moyes and 20 copies of ‘The Eyre Affair’ by Jasper Fforde to give away on a first come, first served basis.

Visitors to the event will also have the chance to bring along any books of their own that they would like to swap with other readers.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Pauline Nash, said:

“I’m delighted that Calderdale libraries have been selected to distribute books as part of World Book Night.

“I think it’s great that book lovers have the chance to share their enthusiasm with those who may not read regularly. I encourage people to get involved, so more people can discover the enjoyment that reading can bring.”
