Following completion of Mixenden Community Hub in early 2025 and the opening of the brand new library and community garden there, the North Halifax Primary Care Network (PCN) has moved into the purpose-built space and is fully operational.
This offers a unique opportunity to provide enhanced healthcare services at the heart of Mixenden in a transformative milestone for the community, adding to the impact the Hub is already having on local people’s lives.
Developed by Calderdale Council in partnership with North Halifax PCN and Pennine GP Alliance, the Hub is meeting the growing needs of the community. It offers a welcoming space where residents can access a broad range of services, fostering wellbeing, learning and connection.
This is part of the overall investment in north Halifax, where a 10-year partnership strategy driven by the community is transforming the area to support the priority for thriving towns and places.
The PCN is made up of four practices: Beechwood Medical Centre, Keighley Road Surgery, Plane Trees Group Practice and Caritas Group Practice. Patients registered with these practices will benefit from the services provided by health professionals in the new hub.
Although Pennine GP Alliance is the leaseholder and will manage the building for the next 15 years, North Halifax PCN will oversee the healthcare services within the hub.
Geetha Chandrasekaran, Clinical Director of North Halifax Primary Care Network said:
“We’re excited to be part of this new chapter for Mixenden. The purpose-built hub allows us to deliver tailored healthcare services, from health checks to preventative care. We’re focused on meeting the needs of local residents in a modern, accessible setting. This facility will help us improve health outcomes by working closely with the community.”
Will Menzies, Chief Executive of Pennine GP Alliance, shares this enthusiasm:
“This hub is a clear demonstration of our commitment to creating a healthier future for North Halifax. As the leaseholder, PGPA is proud to support the PCN in delivering crucial healthcare services from this innovative space. The Mixenden Community Hub will play a key role in enhancing healthcare and strengthening community ties for years to come.”
The Hub’s integrated design reflects the vision of health and care organisations in Calderdale to make healthcare more accessible to the community. It also includes a modern library, a community garden and spaces for local businesses and services. The PCN Hub will complement the services already provided by GP surgeries in North Halifax, helping to expand the range of services available in a shared, collaborative space.
Calderdale Council’s investment in Mixenden Community Hub highlights its commitment to tackling inequalities, supporting economic growth and building a sustainable future.
Cllr Sarah Courtney, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said:
“Since opening, Mixenden Community Hub has brought vital services and opportunities to the heart of the community, bringing hope, helping to transform the area and supporting the Council’s and the community’s joint long-term ambitions for north Halifax.
“As additional services move in, we’ll see further opportunities at the Hub, developing its role as a vibrant community space where people can look after their health, learn, relax and socialise.”
Mixenden Community Hub is a thriving environment where healthcare and community wellbeing are central to the area’s growth and success. The continued development supports the Vision 34 for Calderdale as a place full of opportunity, where everyone has hope and can thrive.
Vision 34 is a shared, long-term ambition to work towards over the next 10 years to make Calderdale a better place for everyone, based on the stories that unite us. To find out more visit calderdalevision34.com
