Just 200 days to go!

It’s just 200 days until the Italy v Tonga match – a key part of Rugby League World Cup 2013 – kicks off at the Shay Stadium, Halifax.

Wednesday 24 April 2013 marks the milestone in the countdown to the next iconic sporting event in the UK after the Olympics.

To celebrate, fans are being asked to tweet pictures of everyday props being used in inventive ways to create the number 200, as part of a national competition run by World Cup organisers. The most creative entry will win a Rugby League World Cup 2013 goodie bag. People are asked to tweet @rlwc2013halifax using the hash tag and 200days.

In all sports there have only ever been eight world cups held in the UK, and fans have a great opportunity to win a piece of history when Rugby League World Cup hits Halifax on Sunday 10 November 2013. By simply registering their details at www.rlwc2013calderdale.co.uk(external link)|External link, fans will be entered into a competition to win exclusive signed merchandise from the Italian and Tongan teams. Everyone who registers will also receive information and offers for the Italy v Tonga match at the Shay.

Rugby League World Cup 2013 is the pinnacle of Rugby League and will see New Zealand try to defend their title against the big guns of Australia and co-tournament hosts England and Wales.

Tickets for the Italy v Tonga match at the Shay Stadium are on sale and are selling well. With prices for 55 per cent of the tournament at £20 or less, and the cheapest tickets for the Shay game at just £10 (£5 concessions), this is an affordable event on the doorsteps of local fans.

There will be unmissable entertainment in and around the Shay Stadium on the day, including a huge Tongan Haka that will be performed before the game as part of the schools programme.

“Excitement is really building in Calderdale as we get set to welcome the Italian and Tongan teams and fans to the Shay Stadium. We encourage our communities to come to the Shay and help celebrate this iconic event and showcase Calderdale on the world stage.

“Calderdale is a sports-mad borough and this is another chance to be part of a huge sporting event and be inspired to participate in sport.”

RLWC2013 General Manager, Sally Bolton said:

“There’s less than 200 days to go now to the start of the tournament and 200 days to go today to the Italy v Tonga match at the Shay Stadium. Fans in Halifax will be getting excited at seeing some of the best players in the world at their ground.
