Opportunities for local business leaders to drive growth and jobs

Local business leaders are being given a unique opportunity to help drive growth and jobs in the Leeds City Region(external link)|External link the UK’s largest economy and population centre outside London.

The Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is seeking passionate and proven business leaders to join its Board and supporting panels, including applicants for the post of LEP Board Chair and membership of the Green Economy Panel, which aims to drive down carbon emissions in the region.

Calderdale Council is encouraging CEOs, directors and entrepreneurs in the borough to apply for the roles.

The LEP Board brings together the public and private sectors, working to a shared vision for economic growth. The LEP’s main aim is to overcome barriers to private sector growth and create more opportunities for businesses to provide jobs.

The current terms of appointment of Board members expire at the end of March 2013, and the LEP is taking the opportunity to refresh Board membership for the next stage of its development. Current LEP Chair, Neil McLean, will be stepping down from the role after two highly successful years.

Calderdale Council’s Leader, Cllr Tim Swift, says:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local business leaders to raise the profile of Calderdale in the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, and to help shape economic development in the area.”

Calderdale Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Janet Battye, adds:

“I encourage people who have led successful organisations in Calderdale to take this opportunity to share their experience and put forward ideas on how to encourage business growth and job creation in the Leeds City Region. The recruitment also includes the chance to drive carbon reduction and promote renewable energy, which are important priorities in Calderdale and the region.”

Current Chair of the LEP Board, Neil McLean, explains:

“I am immensely proud of the progress the Leeds City Region LEP has made. We have real momentum, have developed a strategic economic plan for the city region, helped to secure more than £90m for our businesses from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, and successfully taken our £36m Growing Places Fund to market.”

Business leaders and entrepreneurs across Leeds City Region have until Friday 15 February 2013 to express their interest in joining the LEP.
