Calderdale Council’s Small Grants Panel has allocated its funds for 2013/14, and will have further funds to spend in 2014/15.
At the most recent meeting of the Panel, funding was allocated to 25 different community groups. The amount awarded ranged from small amounts to help a group with transport costs, to more substantial figures to help with costs such as recruitment.
Included in the 25 projects were a number related to the Tour de France and Yorkshire Festival 2014. The race and accompanying cultural festival has unsurprisingly created a lot of interest, and many community groups and cultural events are looking to host cycling related activities. Some of the successful events include:
Annapurna Indian Dance – This long established Indian dance group is performing its innovative ‘Bicycle with barefoot’ dance as part of the Yorkshire Festival 2014. They were awarded an additional £675 to allow an extra performance of this in Brighouse.
- Hebden Bridge Open Studios – The annual arts event has been accepted as part of the Yorkshire Festival fringe programme. They were awarded £350 towards developing their website to engage new audiences.
- Marketing Halifax – This year’s Halifax food and drink festival will include the ‘Rhythm in the Riding’ Yorkshire Festival project, involving 13 schools from across the borough. They were awarded £1000 towards the cost of the event.
- Outta Place Ltd – This long established group is providing the opportunity to participate in a Tour de France related dance project with a French dance organisation. £1000 was awarded towards costs.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Steve Sweeney, said:
“Calderdale is lucky to be host to a great number of successful and diverse events and festivals, and it’s fantastic that the Council has a designated fund to help these flourish.
“This year is especially exciting as we have so many Yorkshire Festival 2014 and fringe events taking place in the borough. I’m pleased that we can offer financial support to help support community organisations and increase cultural events in the borough.”
The Small Grants Panel meet every three months, and aims to support voluntary and community groups by giving one-off grants of up to £3,000.
