The Leader of Calderdale Council, Cllr Tim Swift said:
We share with the rest of the country our sadness at this terrible tragedy and our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected. The Union Flag will fly at half mast today at Halifax Town Hall as a mark of respect and support.
I would also like to thank the emergency services, the Fire Service, Police, Ambulance and Health Service, which responded immediately, working with courage and compassion in such difficult circumstances.
We understand that this incident may have raised concerns within our communities, and we are working with our local housing providers, such as Together Housing, to provide reassurance.
