Calderdale Council is continuing its work to improve pedestrian facilities in Mytholmroyd.
Work on phase one of the scheme began in February 2012, and involved widening and repaving the footpaths around the town centre. The next phase is scheduled to start this summer, and will see two raised pedestrian crossing points, one by the Shoulder of Mutton pub and another on New Road near Church Street, a new pavement between the library and Scout Road, and a traffic island – making it easier for people to cross Cragg Road.
The existing road and pavements along New Road are narrow. The pavement on the east side is wider, but people find it hard to see to cross the road. The proposed changes aim to make it easier for pedestrians to cross to and from the wider pavement.
Traffic calming methods will also be introduced, with road narrowing and the introduction of speed cushions near Streamside Close.
The scheme is funded by the Local Transport Plan, and the works start in summer 2013.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Cllr Barry Collins, said:
“This scheme will really make a difference for local residents and for visitors. The pavements in Mytholmroyd are currently quite narrow and the proposed plans will help pedestrians move around the town more safely”
