Calderdale may now be a matter of weeks away from adopting its Local Plan.
The Local Plan identifies sites for economic growth and new homes in Calderdale up to 2033.
During these final stages the Cabinet will be asked to recommend the adoption to Full Council at their next Cabinet meeting on 2 March 2023.
This follows confirmation from the Planning Inspector Miss Child, in January 2023, that subject to the modifications set out in her report the Local Plan will be sound and legally compliant.
During the meeting on 2 March the Cabinet will be asked to note the Inspector’s report and to decide whether to recommend to Full Council that the Local Plan should be adopted.
The next Full Council meeting will be held on 22 March 2023.
If Full Council approves the adoption of the Local Plan, this will ensure that the Council has a robust and up to date planning policy framework. Once approved it will be reviewed in year five.
Cllr Jane Scullion, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Strategy, said:
“These are the final few steps on the road to the adoption of Calderdale’s Local Plan. There will be no further public hearings and there can be no further major changes to the plan.
“All that is left is for it to be considered by Cabinet and Full Council. That is as it should be, this is the plan for the future of Calderdale so it’s important that the final decision rests with our local democracy.”

If adopted, the Local Plan will replace the Replacement Calderdale Unitary Development Plan (2006).
