Police in Calderdale are appealing for any information following several thefts from parking meters in Halifax.
Ticket machines in car parks on Prescott Street, Union Street and North Bridge in Halifax town centre are among those that have been targeted, as well as machines in Akroyd Place, Delph Street and Cripplegate.
The offences are believed to have happened between May 12 and May 18, and all are thought to have occurred between midnight and 7am.
Extensive damage has been caused to the machines and a large quantity of cash has been taken.
Sergeant Dean Maddocks, of Calderdale Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are working alongside Calderdale Council to identify the perpetrators of these crimes and our enquiries are ongoing.
“We have officers out on patrol today looking into these incidents, and I would urge members of the public to report any suspicious activity.
“If anyone has any information on the incidents that may help with our investigation, I would also urge you to contact police.”
Steven Lee, Calderdale Council’s Head of Highways and Transportation, said:
“Our parking meters are emptied daily as a preventative measure. However, these thefts are costing the Council – and local taxpayers – a significant amount of money.
“We not only have to fix the damaged machines; lost parking revenue also means we can’t invest as much in important highways improvements across Calderdale. We urge people to be vigilant and report anything that doesn’t seem right.”
