Get organised in 2015

Cllr Megan Swift

Year 11 school leavers and their families are invited to Calderdale Council’s Get Organised event, to find out more about the options they have when they leave school in 2016.

On Monday 28 September young people and their families are encouraged to drop in to the Shay Stadium in Halifax between 3pm and 7.30pm for the chance to speak with colleges, sixth forms, further education providers, universities, work based training providers and employers from across the region. The event is timed before most sixth form or college open evenings take place, so young people can see what is available across Calderdale and get thinking about what they might want to do when they leave school.

There’ll be lots of information and advice available, including presentations from local careers advisors C&K Careers, as well as providers and employers. C&K Careers Advisors and teams from Calderdale Council will also be available to provide support and information on money, benefits, transport, Special Educational Needs and disability support. There is no need to book a place but please be aware it can be busy between 5pm and 6.30pm.

As part of the national change to improve skills and extend learning, Raising Participation Age means that young people now have to stay in education or training until at least their 18th birthday. The Get Organised event 2015 will enable young people to find out about all their options in further education or employment with work based training.  The Get Organised guide 2016 will also be available to collect at the event with additional support and advice.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, Cllr Megan Swift, said:

“This is a great opportunity for young people and their families to find out all about the options available to them across Calderdale and the wider area. The event will be of benefit to all year 11 school leavers in 2016, giving them information and inspiration about what they’d like to do in their future careers.

“Young people and their families can drop into the Shay at any time between 3 – 7.30pm and talk to a whole range of organisations about their post-Year 11 options and take advantage of the advice on offer.”
