Love Your Local Market

Calderdale shoppers are invited to discover the benefits of shopping locally during Love Your Local Market fortnight.

From Tuesday 17 to Tuesday 31 May, Calderdale markets will be joining more than 1200 other markets across the UK and Europe to celebrate Love Your Local Market fortnight.

Now in its fifth year, the fortnight aims to raise the profile of local markets in an attempt to bring shopping back into the heart of local communities.

Markets across Calderdale are getting involved, with some great events to encourage shoppers to discover the benefits that come with shopping locally.

On Saturday 21 May, Elland will be hosting the All about Elland market event, a street market along Southgate, celebrating the town.

There’ll also be a Totally Locally market in Sowerby Bridge on Sunday 22 May and a local produce market in Hebden Bridge on Sunday 29 and Bank Holiday Monday, 30 May. There will also be special promotions and activities at markets right across the borough.

There are some great offers for aspiring young entrepreneurs, with under 24s being able to rent a stall for free throughout the fortnight (subject to availability). Contact the markets service for more details on 01422 393584.

Calderdale Council’s Markets Manager, John Walker, said:

“Love Your Local Market fortnight is a time when we get to celebrate everything that’s great about local markets and also show people who don’t often visit our markets what they’re missing out on. Calderdale has a long-standing and strong market community. Bursting at the seams with energy, friendliness, great choice, quality and value, they are an integral part of communities across the borough.

“There are some great events taking place, as well as a few special offers and giveaways, so it’s the perfect reason to shop locally.”
