Continued support for those in need

Cllr Press

Citizens Advice Calderdale will continue to deliver advice and information services for residents, after Calderdale Council commissioned the service for a further three years.

Last year, Citizens Advice Calderdale helped over 6000 people deal with almost 23,000 problems. The service provides information and advice on issues such as accessing benefits, debt, housing and employment.

This work will now continue until at least 2020, offering a general advice service accessible to all, alongside specialist services delivered to communities who have particularly high needs for advice and information.

The quality of the advice offered by Citizen’s Advice Calderdale has long been recognised by Calderdale Council. The service also recently received national recognition, winning the award for the national advice project of the year at the Citizens Advice national conference.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Communities, Cllr Susan Press, said:

“We’re committed to helping the most vulnerable in Calderdale, and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to extend the contract for the Citizens Advice Calderdale service.

“The organisation has an excellent record of supporting the needs of our residents and it’s vital that this good work can continue. This is especially important as the number of people making contact and seeking support has increased over the last year – a trend that is likely to continue.”

The Chief Executive of Citizens Advice Calderdale, Alastair McGregor, said:

“We are delighted that the local authority has awarded us the contract to continue to deliver this important service to the residents of Calderdale for the next three years.

“We have a team of dedicated staff and volunteers who have a unique local insight into the problems facing residents of Calderdale in these difficult times. This is backed up by our membership of the national Citizens Advice organisation which further enhances our ability to deliver appropriate and essential advice to our clients. We are committed to providing a high quality, independent, non-judgemental, impartial source of advice to all residents of Calderdale.”
